More and more people ask me why I don't have a FaceBook account or Twitter account or some other new and fancy social network account. I don't. And I don't need it. I have email. I had email even before I had a computer and I never felt the need that I have to register somewhere in order to "communicate" with my friends. Now this is my personal taste, I really think that Facebook and Twitter are useless. Actually I had accounts in both networks. I registered in Facebook long before it was even popular - in the days when it became open to public. I registered, I didn't like that people I have seen only once in my life and never talked to are considered my "friends". This was just ridiculous to me and I wanted to unsubscribe. Well it turned out that it wasn't easy to do so. It was before Facebook's license agreement stated that everything you upload is owned by Facebook. But even before that it was ridiculously hard to unsubscribe and delete your account. Now after several hours of googling "how to delete your account on Facebook" I found out a way, but my concerns that an online service providing so easy subscribe process and so hard unsubscribe and delete profile process is not to be considered "good". I also had twitter account. I started having "followers" who were actually spammers. What kind of stupid service is that where you don't have the right to "ban" , "ignore" them or at least stop them to follow you. I never used that account again.
Now currently I noticed the same pattern happening with Google services. They introduced "buzz" some time ago. They just put you in a network you don't want to be in! I had to also google (ironically) "how to stop google buzz". There it is on the bottom of your gmail web page - a "turn off google buzz" button that is smaller than a pixel!
I am sorry but when I started using Internet in the beginning there was no way you could get subscribed to a service you don't want! It is like somebody coming in your apartment without you knowing that and installing web cameras everywhere just in case you might want to use them! A pattern strangely reminding me of Orwell's 1984 world.
Not only that but Google reader - another service I use from google have the option to share items. That is very nice, but I want to share items only with people I have added! Some time ago I noticed I have 27 followers when I am actually following 5! That means I want to connect with those 5 people but somehow Google show my shared items to 22 more! Thank you Google! Now I have to be careful the next time I share thispr0n picture of the lady with the big boobs because somebody I sent accidental email might be following me without even knowing that!
Now all these things make me really suspicious why Facebook and twitter became so popular. Ironically somebody from "The Guardian" already asked these same questions and made very interesting survey who actually is behind Facebook. You can read the whole article here:
I recently became very interested in photography. I used to have nice film camera - Zenit 19, which was shooting amazing pictures. I also used to develop them myself at home. But with the increased use of digital photography I slowly forgot about this passion. I just recently started again when I bought a Canon 40D and started shooting again. I will try to post the most interesting images here.
Every time I see something like this it makes me so happy. I like when people take something very ordinary like a guitar and perform in such a way. If you search more videos from this guy - Ronnie you can see in half of them he plays with 4 strings, 5 strings, or whatever guitar he can find. It's not the tool most of the time. It's the artist.
Somebody very persistently was hacking my site several times in a row. I managed to fix the exploit, but I had to disable some functionality on the site- for example the Download section. I will put it back online soon. I just had a lot of work recently and hadn't much time to fix everything.
This is a video from NBC showing how the oil companies didn't do anything to improve their technology for stopping oil spills over the past 40 years. Makes me want to escape from planet Earth.
